CHAIRMAN OF THE TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION, AKIO TOYODA IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST, MOST INFLUENTIAL PLAYERS ON THE WORLD’S AUTOMOTIVE STAGE

Akio Toyoda was lost for words when informed of his induction into The Motoring Hall of Fame. But despite being surprised and speechless, his delight was obvious - as demonstrated by our photo showing an overjoyed Akio clutching his coveted award. 

He has reshaped Toyota’s global identity - from a reliable yet conservative carmaker to the world’s largest automotive manufacturer. His take on pure-electric vehicles is cautious, not obsessive.  

“No matter how much progress is made with BEVs [pure-EVs] I think they will have a 30 per cent market share. I’ve no doubt that combustion engines will survive.”

Akio is an accomplished race driver. He established Toyota’s motorsport division Gazoo Racing in 2007.
